The Speaker of the National Assembly will on the 29th April 2024 lead a delegation of Members of Parliament to the 2nd Interparliamentary Conference on Family Values and Sovereignty scheduled for the 1st to 3rd May 2024 in Entebbe, Uganda. The delegation comprises; Hon. Johane Thiite and Hon. Caterpillar Hikuama.

The Conference is co-hosted by the African Bar Association and Foundation for African Cultural heritage and is held under the theme,”Re-affirming our family and cultural values”. The African Family Parliamentary Conference (AFPC) mission is to provide a platform for African legislators to discuss emerging global challenges on family and African culture, values and share ideas on how to further deal with these emerging issues.

To conduct continuous awareness raising on emerging threats to the national sovereignty and cultural values of African nations and their implications for African countries.

To take stock of the progress on the communique that was as result of the first African Regional Inter-Parliamentary Conference and dialogue on global challenges to the protection of the African child, the African family, and African culture and values.

To provide an in-depth briefing on the same by African scholars and experts and provide a space for dialogue among parliamentarians in a bid to create understanding and joint actions.

To identify ways to ensure the protection of the sovereign right and duty of African nations to protect the African family as the fundamental unit of society and to protect Africa’s cultural values against emerging global threats.

To encourage African parliaments to address the aforementioned concerns through multilateral as well as unilateral actions.

To create an integrated and unified approach among African parliaments on the way forward in addressing cultural colonialism in African laws, policies, and programs including in the areas of education, health, and human rights.

Honourable Members are expected back on the 4th May, 2024.
